Colorful retro aprons (Like these on Etsy) are one of my favorite things to collect but I haven’t found an easy way to display them. When you hang them on a hook or doorknob they get bunched up and you can’t really tell that they are aprons. I saw some vintage wood pant hangers at a thrift store and it sparked an idea. Here’s how to create your own apron wall art.

The wood hangers I found were only $.25 so I bought all they had. Originally I was going to hang 6 aprons but when they were hung on the hangers they were bigger than I expected. So I ended up only using 4.

Displaying Vintage Aprons

I wanted to create a rainbow effect so I chose four aprons and put them in rainbow order. I found 3 of them at thrift stores and the pink one with roses was $5 at a flea market. Aprons aren’t too hard to find, you can always check Etsy, Ebay and antique stores.

Most of this will depend on the type of wall you have and if you choose to use screws or command hooks. I have plaster walls so I decided to drill holes and use screws. First I drilled a pilot hole, then I used the screwdriver to put the screw in. All the hangers and aprons are different sizes. So for the most part I eyeballed it instead of measuring everything.

Then hang your aprons up and ta-da! You have a colorful vintage linen addition to your wall. I especially love how the colors go well with my vintage cookbooks and kitchen tins.

You can watch a video of the whole process on my Instagram.

When Halloween and Christmas come along I think I’ll switch the aprons out for some seasonal records! I have a lot of vinyl for different holidays and I think they would work great on the hangers. Maybe someday I’ll make some holiday aprons to hang up!
