Emily Retro Dream Job! Sharing My Cover Letter, Resume, and Portfolio

My dream job!

I got a new job as a social media content creator for the Kalamazoo Nature Center! Watch the video below to hear all the details about how I got the job, the interview process, and how this will affect my personal business social media.

I’ll be in charge of the nature center’s Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and working on the marketing team planning out seasonal and nature-based events. I’m so excited about this job, it’s right up my alley!

Getting a job without a college degree

I don’t have a college degree which has always been a big hang-up when it comes to applying for jobs. Especially for a social media manager job, you need a marketing degree in most cases. But with my four years of social media experience on my Emily Retro Instagram and working freelance for Only In Your State, I have plenty of job experience.

I want to share examples of my resume, cover letter, portfolio, and idea list in case they are helpful to you if you’re looking for a new job.

I completely changed up my resume to reflect the nature center, so I used green and added a picture of myself as well. I listened to an episode of A Beautiful Mess Podcast about resumes, and the resume example they shared helped me a lot.

Here is my social media manager cover letter and resume that you can use them as an example for your own resume building.

Above is my portfolio that I made for the interview process. When I emailed the social media portfolio to them I made sure all the underlined text was clickable so they could view the social media channels for themselves. I made all of these pages using Canva for free.

Idea list for the interview

Then I created this list of ideas that I could implement to improve the nature center’s social media channels. I brought this list with me to the third round of interviews to show them how much I wanted the job. If you really want a job, try making one of these idea lists!

Yay for my new job and I hope you found these resume and cover letter examples helpful if you’re searching for a new job!
